When we first came home from the hospital after Phoenix's diagnosis and first round of chemotherapy, we were thrilled to be home but nervous about the implications of being home with a child with a severely compromised immune system. In his condition he could get very sick from everyday things that would not be especially harmful to a child with a healthy immune system. We found ourselves suddenly very aware of the need for a clean house fully stocked with a lot of supplies such as: paper towels, laundry detergent, and hand soap.
We created our "Heroes at Home" program for families of children who have been recently diagnosed with cancer. These families are able to request a customized kit of useful items that will put help to put their mind at ease about being at home with an immunocompromised child. Items that can be included in these kits are:
